Star Readers Club
The Star Readers Club is for students
who have earned a certain amount of Accelerated Reader points. Once they reach the
required points, they are awarded a "dog tag" and a "no homework" pass at Flag Salute.
The dog tag allows the student to be first in the lunch line!
First Grade students must earn 15
points.
Second Grade students must earn 30 points.
Third and Fourth Grade students must earn 50 points.
Fifth and Sixth Grade students must earn 75 points.
Genre Challenge
Once again our Third and Fourth Graders will have the opportunity to participate in the Genre
Challenge. The purpose of the Genre Challenge is to encourage our students to read books
from the many genre styles of literature, and hopefully open their eyes to something new.
They may not have realized that stories could be classified as realistic fiction or
fantasy, and that mysteries and survival stories are popular themes within the realistic
fiction classification. The program challenges them to read from eight (8)
books from the following genre styles or themes within the genre. Once
they finish a book from one of the categories they add it to their Genre
Log. The goal is to fill up the Log by the end of
the school year. The categories are as follows:
-
Historical fiction
-
Poetry collection
-
Fantasy
-
Biography/Informational book
-
Traditional literature (folk tale, fable, mythology, etc.)
-
Realistic fiction (adventure, mystery, humor, etc.)
