Curriculum Focus
Our library program focuses on promoting reading
enjoyment and information literacy skills. We want to
foster a love for reading so that ultimately our
students chose reading as a form of entertainment and/or
intellectual stimulus. We also want our students to
become information literate. We want them to know how to
locate, evaluate, and use information to meet their
needs. Our curriculum is designed to build this
foundation so that they are ready to move on to middle
school. The curriculum for Pre-K through Grade 2 focuses
on literature and reading enjoyment, with some time
spent on introductory information literacy skills. The
curriculum for Grades 3 through 6 focuses on information literacy skills, while
still incorporating reading enjoyment. The library
curriculum works towards integrating literature and
skills with the content being taught in the classroom.
Grade
6 Research Project
Our Sixth Graders
will work on
various research projects this year. In
October, they begin working
on a research paper.
They will select a country
that they are interested in, and research the
culture of that country, and will used different types of resources to learn
as much as they can. They will
present a written report with a cover page and a
bibliography
of what they have learned.
To guide them in this research process they will use Ann
Irvings
Nine Step Model for Completing Assignments. The students
will focus their time on searching for, evaluating, and organizing information.
