Welcome to Mrs. Jones's Class!

Welcome to our second grade classroom! I’m looking forward to showing you what we are doing and sharing some of our learning experiences with you.  Mrs. Jenny Diaz will be working with me again this year.  We have been busy preparing and getting everything ready for our new school year.  Mrs. Marisa Dwyer and Mrs. Pia Arevalo will be our room mothers this year.  They will coordinate class parties, field trips, and any extra curricular activities.  They will also assist with School and Home Association events.

We are beginning our year with a new Reading Series called, Imagine It!  All the units are organized around a central theme.  We are starting out with a unit that will expand our perspective on kindness.

Our class will be using the Houghton Mifflin Math program this year.  Our program provides a balanced approach in developing proficiency in age appropriate math skills and concepts.  Parents, you can help your child by helping him/her to master the basic addition and subtraction facts by reviewing flashcards for at least 5-10 minutes every day.

Our social studies program uses the text, Some People I Know.  It will provide students with the opportunity to study their expanding environment from their own families to the diverse cultures of the world.  Parents will be taking us on tours throughout the year to different countries.  We started out with my giving a tour of the USA.  We had a lot of fun watching the tour on our new Smartboard.  Afterwards, we enjoyed some typical American food—hotdogs and apple pie!  Each child received an American flag and a star spangled necklace for their tour bag.

You may enjoy some of the pictures from our tour by clicking on the World Tour link at left.
