Computer Curriculum

Computer Lessons: The computer lessons at St. Stephen's Episcopal Day School not only increase student's technology skills, but supports what students are learning in the classroom. This has many different looks. For example, students can work on their writing skills while creating a computer slide show using software such as MS Word, Kid Pix, MS PowerPoint, Sunbuddy Writer, Storybook Weaver and more.

Grade Level Skills: Each grade level progressively practices computer skills that build off of one another. The following is a brief sketch of some technology skills each grade level works on when they visit the lab.

Senior Kindergarten

  • Computer Awareness Skills

  • Basic Keyboarding Awareness

  • Draw and create original computer art

1st Grade

  • Expand Computer Awareness Skills

  • Create, save and retrieve files

  • Draw and create original computer art

  • Awareness of word processing, create text files, delete and insert, change font, insert pictures

  • Beginning typing skills -"home row keys"

2nd Grade

  • Create letters and short stories in word processing, including text alignment, use of color, insert clip art, and how to save on a specific folder.

  • Continued reinforcement of typing skills and home row keys

  • Introduction to the Internet - visits to specific sites

3rd Grade

  • Expand basic navigation skills in the desktop environment

  • Create and edit properly formatted paragraphs and short reports, edit with spell check, text alignment, insert clip art, word art, print

  • Use of both hands for all word processing projects, continued reinforcement of typing skills

  • Use of Internet search tools to find information

  • Word processing, text alignment, use of color, insert clip art, and how to save on a specific folder.

4th Grade

  • Word processing in depth: properly formatted letters, stories, and essays. Edit, cut, copy and paste.

  • Import graphics from various resources, Internet, digital cameras, etc.

  • Required use of both hands for all word processing projects, continued reinforcement of typing skills

  • Create a multimedia presentation that integrates with the 4th grade curriculum

  • Use of Internet search tools to find information, download information and images to student files

5th Grade

  • Word processing for report writing, introduction to bibliographies, page set ups, margins

  • Import graphics from various resources, Internet, digital cameras, etc.

  • Create a multimedia presentation that integrates with the 5th grade curriculum

  • Use of Internet search tools to find information, download information and images to student files

  • Develop projects that include, advanced slide shows, advanced word processing and advance Internet research.

6th Grade

  • Word processing for writing a research paper, introduction to bibliographies, page set ups, margins.

  • Import graphics from various resources, Internet, digital cameras, etc.

  • Create a multimedia presentation that integrates with the 6th grade curriculum

  • Use of Internet search tools to find information, download information and images to student files

  • Develop projects that include, advanced slide shows, advanced word processing and advance Internet research.
