Grade 6 Studies Early American Portraiture

The sixth grade studied portraiture in early American Art.  Silhouettes were a very common form of portraiture at the time.

To make their silhouettes, a photograph of each student was taken.  Then a transparent grid was placed over the photograph.  Each student had to draw their profile using the grid system free hand.  Finally, the student cut out their profile on black paper to create their silhouette.
