The purpose of the library program is to promote reading enjoyment and teach information literacy skills. The program for Pre-Kindergarten through second grade focuses on literature and reading enjoyment, with some time spent on introductory information literacy skills.
Tthe program for third through sixth grade focuses on information literacy skills, with some time spent on reading enjoyment. We want to foster a love for reading so that ultimately our students choose reading as a form of entertainment and/or intellectual stimulus. We also want them to become information literate
- that is we want them to know how to locate, evaluate, and use information to meet their needs. The library curriculum is designed to build this foundation so that the students are ready to move on to the secondary school level.
The circulation of books is controlled by computer and the catalog is completely on-line. Our students are becoming familiar with word search techniques. In addition to learning library skills and research techniques and making weekly entries on their Accelerated Reading records, the students are encouraged to read by the use of enjoyable reading programs, story telling, and book talks.
