Drama & Speech
There are various common purposes of the drama and speech program at St. Stephen’s. First, both programs aim to develop individual self-confidence. This is achieved through the experience of planning for, practicing, and executing plays or speech contests at appointed times. Participating children learn that they can work toward and achieve a goal within a deadline. At the same time, the children learn to overcome their fears of public performance by speaking or performing on stage. Second, both programs seek to promote effective verbal and non-verbal communication. Both programs are designed to provide an outlet for expression and encourage a love for literature. The Drama program has the additional goals of emphasizing the importance of teamwork, and developing musical abilities. Ideally, through participation in these two programs, students will make great progress on their way to becoming well-rounded individuals.
